Officials said the volcano, Mount Rokatenda on Palue island in East Nusa Tenggara province erupted at 04:27 a.m. local time Saturday, spewing ash up to 2,000 meters high. The volcano has been rumbling since October 2012.
Indonesia sits on a quake-prone zone known as "the Pacific Ring of Fire", and is home to 129 active volcanoes.
